Description
Located adjacent to Fatma Bint Mubarak Clinic and Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, the Maggie’s Center offers a therapeutic sanctuary that contrasts the neighboring glass-heavy clinical buildings by evoking the comfort of home. Inspired by origami architecture, the design features folded geometries that inform the orientation and spatial experience, creating light, airy volumes attached to a central solid core. The structure is composed of steel-framed volumes connected to the primary load-bearing concrete walls, enabling dynamic forms while maintaining stability. These structural gestures enhance both visual fluidity and natural light flow, reinforcing the concept of healing through space. The center includes communal lounges, therapy and meditation rooms, a dining area, prayer rooms, library, and staff spaces, supporting emotional and psychological care. The design integrates accessible circulation, sustainable systems, and a warm material palette of concrete, cladding, tiles, and glazing wrapped with a dynamic skin. It stands as a quiet landmark, welcoming, calming, and rooted in human-centered care.
